Fieldrunners App Reviews
This game was phenomenal on the iPad! But upon first load on my Macbook, it is clearly a port and not a very good one. Having black vertical lines because an app is not widescreen is unacceptable, and if this was on retina mac, it would look so VHS. Hopefully, these issues get remedied in a future update.
Blatant cash grab
This is one of my favorite iOS games, but the port to OSX is truly terrible. Subatomic should be ashamed of themselves.
BEST!!
Best game ever of Tower Defense games!
I love the game on iphone, but the resolution looks very low on my new macbook. That alone would not be enough to give it a bad review, but the cursor of my magic mouse and the game cursor both show up plainly on the screen. They are far away from each other and makes for extremely annoying and confusing gameplay. So much so, that it is too much of a distraction to play this game at all.
Horrible on the Mac but one of the best games on the IPhone. On the Mac it is small, buggy and the graphics are terrible. 2 cursors show on the screen and the distance constantly changes between them. It is apparent the developers just took the iphone version and tried to port to the mac.
Awsome
Just what I expected plus more love it.
A must have for all tower defense fans, especially if you havent played the original IPhone version. Its the exact same game, maybe a little too exact. Theres been no improvements for the Mac, and one small problem. The game doesnt fill the whole screen when in full screen mode, its an obvious port. Though, to be fair, the game does allow you to zoom in during gameplay, so that does help a little. Its still one of the classic tower defense games out there, and I havent had any bugs after playing for a few days. 7 bucks may seem a little pricey, but the game does offer 8 maps with 7 game types for each map, and 3 difficulty settings, so theres hours of gameplay and replayability here.
I cant get enough of Fieldrunners (plus the new Fieldrunners 2 and 2HD on iPhone 5 and iPad 3 with Retina Display support). After a hard day of work, theres nothing more relaxing than figuring out bizarre tower combinations for maximizing clone kill-rate!
A couple of bizarre little bugs cost it a star. Amusingly, months after its release, these are not fixed. Nothing prevents play (so far) but it sure wouldbe nice to get these fixed, and the game deserves it. After you get a high score, you can clear the dialog ad then resume and alakazam you have another high score equal to your just earned high score. Enter your name and fill the display! If you select a tower by clicking and dragging, you get nothing (but it occasionally costs you the money). Do not click and drag.
After I play one level on my MacBook with Retina Display it hangs up on the scores screen and when you hit resume game you keep going back to high scores but cannot advance in game. I’d like my money back.
I thought this version would be even better than the version on my iPad, but boy was I wrong. There is no map, so you can’t quickly see what you have and haven’t finished, you have to scroll through lists. The way the menus flow is not very intuitive, and I ended up having to post three identical high scores on the same board before I realized how it is set up. It is also very hard to get the screen to scroll or zoom in and out properly. It just feels like this was a hastily thrown together port from the iOS, and it has been a huge disappointment, especially after I liked my iPad version so very much. Wish I hadn’t wasted my money on this.
I dont see what people mean about bugs. Runs fine for me. My mac is kinda dated (like a lot) but runs nonetheless. I cant do full screen without thes anoying horizontal lines flickering up and down the screen but I suppose it is due to having only a 1.66 processor with 2gb ram lol. The lines go away when windowed though. Very fun to play! :D I would love to see the second edition in the OSX App Store sometime soon and I dont think Im the only one who would buy it right away ;)
